Colored paint protection film is the smartest way to change your car’s color: instead of wrapping the paint then protecting it, a single pigmented film does both at once — a full color change and paint protection in one self-healing layer. This guide explains what color PPF is, the finishes available, how it compares to vinyl wrap, and how to choose.
The quick version
- Colored PPF changes your car’s color and protects the paint in one self-healing TPU film — no separate wrap needed.
- It comes in gloss, matte, satin, and prismatic color-shift finishes.
- It’s more durable and self-healing than vinyl wrap, and removes cleanly without damaging factory paint.

What is colored PPF?
Colored paint protection film (color PPF) is a pigmented thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film applied over your factory paint. Unlike clear PPF, it carries a color or finish — so it transforms the look of the car while delivering the same rock-chip, scratch, and UV protection as clear film. Because it’s TPU, quality color PPF also self-heals light swirls with heat, something vinyl wrap can’t do.
Color PPF finishes
Color PPF comes in a range of finishes so you can match any build:
| Finish | Look | Great for |
|---|---|---|
| Gloss | Deep, wet, high-shine color | Bold factory-plus color changes |
| Matte | Flat, stealthy, non-reflective | Murdered-out and OEM-matte looks |
| Satin | Soft sheen between gloss and matte | Sophisticated, understated color |
| Prismatic / Color-Shift | Iridescent color that shifts with light | Show cars and statement builds |

Color PPF vs vinyl wrap
Vinyl wrap changes color but offers little protection and no self-healing, and cheaper vinyl can crack or fade. Colored PPF is thicker, self-healing TPU that protects against chips and scratches while changing the color — one step instead of two. Full comparison: color PPF vs vinyl wrap, and the benefits of color PPF.
- Protection + color in one — no wrapping then protecting separately.
- Self-healing — light swirls disappear with heat.
- More durable than vinyl — resists chips, stains and yellowing.
- Removes cleanly — comes off with heat without harming factory paint.
