How Much PPF Film Do You Need Per Car? Roll Sizes, Yardage & Cost per Job

Every PPF quote starts with the same question: how much film is this job going to use? Get it wrong and you either run out mid-hood or price yourself out of the job. This guide gives installers the working numbers — what each PPF roll size is in square feet, how much film a partial front, full front, track pack and full body typically consume, how many cars you get per roll, and what the material costs per job at dealer pricing.

The quick version

  • A 60″ × 50′ roll is 250 square feet; 36″ × 50′ is 150; 24″ × 50′ is 100.
  • Rough yardage of 60″ film: partial front 8–10 ft, full front 14–18 ft, track pack 20–25 ft, full body 55–70 ft.
  • One 60″ × 50′ roll covers about 5–6 partial fronts or about 3 full fronts; a full body needs more than one roll.
  • At dealer pricing, clear PPF runs about $3.58–$4.78 per square foot; colour PPF about $5.00.
  • Plotter patterns cut waste by roughly 10–15% versus bulk cutting.

Measure twice: hood and bumper patterns decide how much of the roll a full front really uses.

PPF roll sizes explained

Rolls are sold by width in inches and length in feet. Multiply width (in feet) by length to get square feet — the number that actually matters for quoting.

Roll sizeSquare feetTypical use
60″ × 50′250 sq ftHoods, roofs, doors, full fronts, full bodies
36″ × 50′150 sq ftFenders, bumpers, mirrors, pillars
30″ × 50′125 sq ftBumpers, partial hoods on smaller cars
24″ × 50′100 sq ftMirrors, pillars, partial hood strips, headlights
60″ × 10′50 sq ftSingle-colour accent jobs, roofs, sampling a new film

How much film each coverage level uses

These are typical plotter-cut yardage ranges for a mid-size car in 60″ film. Vehicle size, pattern software and whether you bulk-cut or plot will move them, so verify against your own patterns before quoting a fleet.

CoverageWhat is included60″ film usedSquare feet
Partial front18–24″ hood and fender strips, full bumper, mirrors8 – 10 ft40 – 50
Full frontFull hood, full fenders, bumper, mirrors, headlights14 – 18 ft70 – 90
Track packFull front plus A-pillars, roof edge, rockers, door edges20 – 25 ft100 – 125
Full bodyEvery painted panel55 – 70 ft275 – 350

Bulk cutting on the car typically adds 10–20% on top of those figures because you wrap edges with margin and trim. Keep offcuts: a full-front job leaves pieces large enough for mirrors, door cups and headlights.

Narrower Diamond and Prime rolls hold the same per-square-foot price (Diamond 24″, 36″ and 60″ rolls are all about $4.80 per sq ft), so buy the width that matches your panels rather than the biggest roll by default.

Which width for which panel

  • 60″ — hoods, roofs, doors, trunk lids, full bumpers on larger vehicles.
  • 36″ — fenders, most bumpers, quarter panels, A-pillars.
  • 24″ – 30″ — mirrors, headlights, partial hood strips, small bumpers.
  • 6″ — door edges, door cups, rocker panels, trunk ledges, luggage areas.

Plotter vs bulk: how it changes yardage

Plotter patterns nest parts and wrap edges by a known margin, which is where the 10–15% saving comes from. Bulk cutting is faster to set up and fine for hoods and bumpers, but it eats film on complex fenders and mirrors. Many shops plot the front end and bulk the roof and doors.

Install chemistry for PPF

Yardage is wasted if a panel has to be pulled. A controlled-tack install gel keeps film positionable without pre-tack marks; a clean slip solution flushes without residue.

Frequently asked questions

How much PPF do I need for a full front?

Typically 14–18 linear feet of 60″ film, around 70–90 square feet, for a mid-size car with full hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors and headlights.

How many cars can I wrap with one 60″ × 50′ roll?

About 5–6 partial fronts or around 3 full fronts. A full body needs more than one roll.

What does PPF film cost per square foot?

At dealer pricing, NanoTek Prime is about $3.58 per sq ft, NanoTek Diamond about $4.78, and NANOlink colour PPF about $5.00 on a 60″ × 50′ roll.

Is a 60″ roll always the best value?

Not necessarily. Diamond and Prime hold the same price per square foot across widths, so match the width to your panels and keep waste down.

Where do installers buy PPF rolls wholesale?

Through an authorized distributor. Pioneers Distribution supplies NanoTek and NANOlink PPF to registered dealers at wholesale pricing.
